Takeo Fujisawa was born on November 10, 1910. Fujisawa was the son of a successful businessman, but the family struggled financially after the Great Kanto earthquake wiped out the movie industry. Fujisawa dreamed of becoming a teacher, but was unable to pass the necessary examinations. He became a copyist before being called up to military service in 1930.

After his service, he began working as a traveling salesman for a steel company where he developed his famed interpersonal and sales skills.

He joined Honda in 1949 and eventually earned the title of vice president. He retired in 1973, but continued to consult for Honda while he opened his own antique shop.

Fujisawa suffered a heart attack and died at the age of 78 in 1988. After his death, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun.
