He served as the head football coach at Temple University from 2006 to 2010 and the University of Miami from 2011 to 2015. Prior to head coaching, he was the defensive coordinator at the University of Virginia from 2001 to 2005. Golden played college football as a tight end at Pennsylvania State University and professionally for the New England Patriots of the National Football League .
