Why Is Alexander Hamilton Influential?

According to Wikipedia, Alexander Hamilton FRSE FRCSE FRCPE was a Scottish physician. He was a co-founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1783. He was one of the first persons to recognise that puerperal fever was infectious. He was professor of midwifery at the University of Edinburgh.
