Why Is Bernard N. Fields Influential?

According to Wikipedia, Bernard Nathan Fields was an American microbiologist and virologist. Fields was a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Fields was the Adele Lehman Professor and chairman of the department of microbiology and molecular genetics of Harvard Medical School, and he was the head of division of infectious diseases at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Prior to that, he was on the faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was the editor-in-chief of the journal Virology.
