According to Wikipedia, Bernard Vauquois was a French mathematician and computer scientist. He was a pioneer of computer science and machine translation in France. An astronomer-turned-computer scientist, he is known for his work on the programming language ALGOL 60, and later for extensive work on the theoretical and practical problems of MT, of which the eponymous Vauquois triangle is one of the most widely-known contributions.
