Why Is Berthold Benecke Influential?

According to Wikipedia, Berthold Adolph Benecke was a German anatomist and embryologist. He made contributions in diverse subjects such as photomicrography and fish farming. Beginning in 1861 he studied medicine at the University of Königsberg, where his influences were surgeon Albrecht Wagner and botanist Robert Caspary. From 1870 to 1877 he served as an instructor and prosector at the anatomical institute in Königsberg. In 1877 he was appointed to the chair of topographical anatomy at the university.
