Family He is the son of sports journalist and publicity director of the San Francisco 49ers, Dan Francis McGuire and high school teacher Phyllis Evelyn Goemmer , the fourth of nine children. He married Ann Kirstin Pedersen in 1970 and adopted a son from Korea in 1980.
