According to Wikipedia, Broadus Mitchell was an 20th-century American historian, writer, professor, and 1934 Socialist Party candidate for governor of Maryland. Background John Broadus Mitchell was born on December 27, 1892, in Georgetown, Kentucky. His father was a professor of classical languages. He had three siblings. In 1913, he graduated from the University of South Carolina and in 1918 earned a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University.
