He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles. Akers was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the team, including the 2021 season where he tore his Achilles. He is one of the first players to receive the SpeedBridge surgery, shortening his recovery time from 12 months to five and a half months. He returned for the postseason and was a part of the Super Bowl LVI championship team. In 2023, he was traded to the Vikings, where another Achilles injury prematurely ended his season.
