His brother Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck became the king following the abdication of his father on 14 December 2006. Prince Jigme Dorji is the fourth son of the fourth King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck from Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck. His family includes an older brother, and an older sister, Princess Ashi Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck, as well as three half-brothers and four half-sisters.
