He is best known for songwriting, having written Sam & Dave's "Soul Man" , and "Hold On, I'm Comin'". His songs have been sampled in Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover" , Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy wit It" , and The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Who Shot Ya?".
