According to Wikipedia, Delos Donald "Wick" Wickens was an American experimental research psychologist, behaviorist, and author. He taught at Ohio State University from 1946 until his retirement in 1980. Wickens discovered the release from proactive inhibition through his research on proactive interference buildup. His analysis of human behavior culminated in his work “Encoding Categories of Words; an Empirical Approach to Meaning,” which was published in Psychological Review and remains one of the most widely cited articles in the history of recent psychology. Over the years, Wickens published his research findings predominantly in the Journal of Experimental Psychology and the Bulletin of the Psychometric Society.
