Prior to moving to Sydney in 2015, he taught at Binghamton University , Villanova University , and Penn State University . He is known for his research on ancient Greek philosophy and literature, post-Kantian philosophy, hermeneutics and philosophy of art. He received his PhD in philosophy from the Boston College in 1982.
