He served as the Minister of Health in the Pakatan Harapan administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from May 2018 to his resignation and the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020. He is a member the National Trust Party , a component party of PH coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party , a former component party of the former Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan Alternatif opposition coalitions.
