According to Wikipedia, Sir Geoffrey Slaney, was a British surgeon and academic, specialising in vascular and gastrointestinal surgery. He held the Barling Chair of Surgery at the University of Birmingham from 1971 to 1986, and was the President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England from 1982 to 1986.
