Until his retirement in 2013 he was the head of the Institute of Algebra. Vita After studying mathematics and physics at the University of Vienna and his PhD , Günter Pilz was assistant professor at several institutions: at the department of mathematics of the University of Vienna , at the department of statistics at the University of Technology of Vienna , as research associate at the department of mathematics, University of Arizona, United States and at the department of mathematics at the University of Linz . In 1971, he received his Habilitation. In 1974, he was promoted to a professor of mathematics at the JKU. He was head of the department of mathematics in Linz and head of the Institute of Algebra .
