According to Wikipedia, Halbert Powers Gillette was an American engineer and prolific author of textbooks and handbooks for the engineering and construction fields. Biography Born on August 5, 1869, in Waverly, Iowa, to Theodore Weld and Laetitia S. , Gillette attended the Hammond Hall Academy in Salt Lake City, from which he graduated in 1886. Six years later in 1892, he received his engineering degree at the School of Mines at Columbia University, where he was classmate of Edward B. Durham.
