He is considered one of the founding fathers of rocketry and astronautics, along with Robert Esnault-Pelterie, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Robert Goddard and Herman Potočnik . Oberth supported Nazi Germany's war effort and received the War Merit Cross in 1943.
