Education and career Hartnett has an A.B. from Vassar College and an M.S. from the University of Washington . She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1998. Following her Ph.D. she did postdoctoral work at Rutgers University. She joined Arizona State University in 2003 and, as of 2022, is a professor at Arizona State University.
