She is currently one of the most prominent actresses in Philippine television and film. Before embarking on a career in show business, Calzado took dubbing stints in several Latin soap operas. Her first break came with the series Kung Mawawala Ka , eventually landing her first lead role in Te Amo, Maging Sino Ka Man . Her first film appearance was in Milan in 2004. She rose to stardom as Amihan' in the drama-fantasy Encantadia . It became AGB Nielsen's 25th highest-rating Philippine TV show of all time. She continued to rise in prominence in the following years with her appearances in several top-rating series, such as Joaquin Bordado , A Love to Last , Ang Sa Iyo ay Akin and Mars Ravelo's Darna , where she played the original Darna.
