Why Is Jacob Hoftijzer Influential?

According to Wikipedia, Jacob Hoftijzer was a scholar of Semitic languages. He was Professor of Hebrew Language and Literature, the Israelite Antiquities and Ugaritic at Leiden University until his retirement in 1991.
