According to Wikipedia, John Charles Roger Childs FRHS is Emeritus Professor of Military History at the University of Leeds. Early life and education John Childs was born in June 1949. He studied at the University of Hull, from which he received the degree of BA, and at King's College London, from which he received a PhD with a thesis on the standing army of the Stuart Restoration.
