He studied medicine in Tartu and Moscow, and in 1897 moved to Kraków, where he trained in pediatrics. Later, he worked in Graz under Theodor Escherich , and in Paris with Doctors Jacques-Joseph Grancher , Antoine Marfan and Victor Henri Hutinel .
