He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. Career He has a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara , and has been professor at the University of Bergen since 1996. Jacobsen's areas of teaching include Hindu traditions, Sikhism, Jainism, Indian Buddhism and Indian philosophy.
