According to Wikipedia, Lawrence George Cohen was an American screenwriter, producer, and director of film and television, best known as an author of horror and science fiction films — often containing police procedural and satirical elements — during the 1970s and 1980s, such as It's Alive , God Told Me To , It Lives Again , The Stuff and A Return to Salem's Lot . He originally emerged as the writer of blaxploitation films such as Bone , Black Caesar, and Hell Up in Harlem . Later on he concentrated mainly on screenwriting, including Phone Booth , Cellular and Captivity .
