Krause received his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1951, his M.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan in 1952, and his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in 1958. His Ph.D. thesis is titled Current balance of payments problems of industrial countries: an empirical study.
