Early life and education Fridman was born in Chkalovsk, Tajikistan and grew up in Moscow. He is of Jewish descent. His father is plasma physicist Alexander Fridman, a professor at Drexel University. His brother is Gregory Fridman, also a researcher in plasma physics.
