(Suggest an Edit or Addition)According to Wikipedia, Manying Ip , known as Bess Ip, is a social historian and emeritus professor in Auckland, New Zealand, who has published on the identity of Chinese New Zealanders. Early life and education Ip was born in 1945 in Guizhou. Her parents had moved to the Guizhou region to escape the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong. She undertook university study in Hong Kong, and then completed a PhD in the History Department of the University of Auckland in 1983, titled From Qing reformer to twentieth-century publisher: the life and times of Zhang Yuanji 1867–1959.
