Why Is Marc-Antoine Charpentier Influential?

According to Wikipedia, Marc-Antoine Charpentier was a French Baroque composer during the reign of Louis XIV. One of his most famous works is the main theme from the prelude of his Te Deum, Marche en rondeau.
