He previously served as Professor of Urban Theory and Director of Urban Theory Lab at Harvard Graduate School of Design, and as Professor of Sociology at New York University. He has also held previous visiting appointments at National University of Singapore, University of Amsterdam, Bard College, Maynooth University, University of Bristol, and University of Urbino. He is a member of the American Sociological Association and the Association of American Geographers.
