(Suggest an Edit or Addition)According to Wikipedia, Perley Gilman Nutting was an American optical physicist and the founder of the Optical Society of America . He served as its first president from 1916 to 1917. OSA is now known as Optica. Born August 22, 1873, in Randolph, Wisconsin, Nutting was a graduate of Stanford University , the University of California, Berkeley , and Cornell University . He joined the National Bureau of Standards as a physicist in 1903. It is claimed that in 1904, Nutting constructed one of the earliest, if not the first, neon sign, which was displayed at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition; however, this story has been disputed.
