Why Is Rehuel Lobatto Influential?

According to Wikipedia, Rehuel Lobatto was a Dutch mathematician. The Gauss-Lobatto quadrature method is named after him, as are his variants on the Runge–Kutta methods for solving ODEs, and the Lobatto polynomials.
