Biographical Russell De Valois was born in Ames, Iowa, on December 15, 1926. He spent most of his early life in Tamil Nadu, India, where his parents supervised an agricultural missionary station. He attended Highclerc School , a boarding school in Kodaikanal, in the mountains of South India.
