Education Tsuruta received a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in 1956. She subsequently went on to Columbia University where she earned a master's degree in 1959 and a doctorate in 1964. While at Columbia she worked with Hong-Yee Chiu and Alastair G. W. Cameron at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
