He is best known for creating the animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants for Nickelodeon in 1999 — serving as the showrunner for its first three seasons, and again from season nine until his death — which has become the fifth-longest-running American animated series. He also performed the original voice of Patchy's pet bird Potty the Parrot from the show.
