The Begum Badrunnesa Govt. Girls’ College (BBGGC) is among the best educational institutes in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Brief History

The Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls College started as the Eden Girls College in 1940, a time when the British colonial rule was nearing its end. In 1948, it was established as an intermediate college. By 1962, Eden Girls’ College opened a second campus at Azimpur while the older campus was renamed.

By 1968, it was renamed Dhaka Government Women’s College and started offering degree courses. In 1974, the college was renamed Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls College in honor of Begum Badrunnessa, the country’s first State Minister for Women, Education, Sports and Cultural Affairs.

Badrunnessa Ahmed (3 March 1924 - 25 May 1974) was a politician known for her social advocacies including women’s rights and education. She was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Coronation Medal for her significant contributions to society and the Independence Day Award (posthumously).

Current Status

Since February 16, 2017, the Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls College has been affiliated with Dhaka University. The partnership has strengthened the quality of the academic programs at the Girls College while also allowing for faster transfers.

Her father is Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Founding Father of Bangladesh.

According to Wikipedia, Begum Badrunnesa Govt. Girls' College is an educational institute in Bangladesh. The college was incorporated in 1948 as an intermediate college under Eden Girls' College. In 1962 Eden College gained a second campus at Azimpur and the older campus at Bakshi Bazar was renamed and later separated from Eden Mohila College, Dhaka. Badrunnesa Girls' College obtained approval of offering honours degrees in 16 subjects in 2004, and has also got approval for running master's degrees in Bangla, English, Sociology, History and Home Economics.
