The college was established in 1998 by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Committee. The Isabella Reservation and the greater Mount Pleasant area are its chief service areas; the Saganing Reservation is secondary. The school focuses on maintaining the Saginaw Chippewa tribal culture, but does admit non-native students.
