Carolina College
Carolina College was a Methodist college for women which operated in Maxton, North Carolina, from 1912 to 1926. The college offered the Bachelor of Arts degree until 1919, at which time it became a junior college offering only the Associate of Arts degree. Financial difficulties forced the closure of the institution in 1926. The property later became Presbyterian Junior College and then Carolina Military Academy. A 1973 fire at the then-closed Carolina Military Academy destroyed the main building.
The Norfolk College for Young Ladies was a finishing school in Downtown Norfolk, Virginia that operated from 1880 to 1899. The college was chartered on Feb. 20, 1880 and opened with 125 students. John L. Roper was president of the college's board. The school was founded to reduce the flow of young women leaving Norfolk for their education. It was located at the northwest corner of Granby and Washington Streets; in 1887 Washington Street was renamed "College Place". In 1899, Mary Washington College took over the building for a few years.

Scholfield's Commercial College was a business college in Providence, Rhode Island, during the second half of the 19th century. It is no longer in operation. History In 1846, Albert Gallatin Scholfield moved from Connecticut to Providence. He was a proponent of the double-entry bookkeeping system, but found that most merchants in town used the single-entry system. Sensing an opportunity, in June 1846 he opened Scholfield's Commercial College in downtown Providence. It was the first business school in the city. Eventually the double-entry method became the dominant accounting system in town.
