About University of Houston
The University of Houston (UH) was established in 1927. With a student body in excess of 46,000, it is the third-largest university in the state of Texas.
UH is divided into 14 academic colleges, which together offer more than 282 degree programs. It is especially known for its undergraduate programs in biology and the biomedical sciences, as well as its business-related programs. Among its most-noted professional programs are those in engineering, architecture, optometry, pharmacy, and law.
The UH system has four campuses: the original, flagship campus on the southern outskirts of the city, as well as campuses in Downton Houston; in Clear Lake City, on the eastern edge of town adjacent to the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center; and in Victoria, a small city located about 120 miles southwest of Houston.
Through its Department of Online and Special Programs, UH offers over 1,250 courses for distance-learners.
