Larry Sabato is the founder and director of the Center for Politics and a university professor and the Robert Kent Gooch Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Virginia. He attended The Queen’s College at Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship, earning a Ph.D in politics in less than two years.
Sabato has written a number of books about politics, including Feeding Frenzy: Attack Journalism and American Politics and, with Glenn R. Simpson, he wrote Dirty Little Secrets: The Persistence of Corruption in American Politics. Sabato’s Crystal Ball is a website run by the University of Virginia, with data analysis regarding elections and public sentiment. Sabato’s Crystal Ball has had varied success as a prognosticator of election results, but was among the polls who missed the outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Sabato has also written a number of American government textbooks as well as a book about John F. Kennedy’s life and assassination, titled The Kennedy Half-Century: The Presidency, Assassination and Lasting Legacy of John F. Kennedy. Sabato has had a significant impact on the next generations of political scientists, having taught over 14,000 students over the course of his teaching career.
