0:00:13.2Would you do it again?

Karina Macosko: Hi. My name is Karina Macosko from AcademicInfluence.com, and I am here with Dr. Mann, who is an environmental scientist. And, Dr. Mann, I wanna know…

…if you had known when you were my age just how controversial this was gonna be and how much ridicule you were gonna face on the internet, do you think you would have still chosen this career?

Michael Mann: Yeah. Thanks for that question. And it’s one that I’ve gotten before. It’s one that I’ve pondered myself, if I could do it all over again. Back when I chose to leave the field of theoretical physics and go into earth science, and in particular, climate science, given all of the harassment, all of the ordeals that I’ve had to face over the years, because of the efforts by climate contrarians to discredit my work and to discredit me personally. Would I do it over again? If I were to do it over again, would I make a different decision? And the answer is no, because this has given me an opportunity to inform what is arguably... The conversation about what is arguably the greatest challenge that we face as a civilization, and I feel privileged to be in a position to do that. So no, despite all the slings and arrows, I would make the same choices because it’s given me a unique opportunity.

Karina: Well, that is incredible. Well, thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me. It was a real pleasure hearing your thoughts, so thank you so much.

Michael: Oh, thank you.
