Early life Peter McGuffin was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 4 February 1949, the eldest of 3 children of Martha Melba and William Brown McGuffin, a merchant navy officer and Royal Naval reservist. The family moved to the Isle of Wight in 1959 on the appointment of William as a Trinity House Pilot for the Port of Southampton.
