Peter Mitchell Grant is a Senior Honorary Fellow and former Regius Professor of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. He earned a B.Sc in electrical and electronic engineering from Heriot Watt University and then a Ph.D from the University of Edinburgh. His area of expertise is signal processing and designing surface acoustic wave programmable analogue matched filters and wideband transform processors for signal intercepts.
While a visiting assistant professor at Stanford University’s Gintzon Laboratory, he facilitated the design of a new acoustic imaging system using digital acoustic technology. At the University of Edinburgh he focused on frequency domains and radio communications and, upon becoming a professor, he guided research into signal processing and mobile communications.
Grant has served as president of the European Association for Signal, Speech, and Image Processing and served a critical role as an advisor to the Scottish government on issues related to science, technology, and engineering.
In 2009, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by the Queen. He is also a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Higher Education Academy, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
