Lacrosse has been growing in popularity in college athletics in the United States. It has gained significant traction at the college level and has seen expansion both in terms of the number of schools offering college lacrosse programs and the number of players participating.

If you’re interested in pursuing higher education while playing lacrosse at a competitive level, here are colleges with renowned lacrosse programs. These schools offer opportunities to develop your skills and will prepare you for a future in professional lacrosse.

Lacrosse is the rare area of college athletics dominated by schools concentrated entirely in the Northeastern U.S. With only a few exceptions in the Top 20—University of Virginia (#9), Northwestern University (#12) and Duke (#16)—the remainder of the list is made up of colleges in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions.

Syracuse, Johns Hopkins, and the University at Albany, SUNY top the list of best schools for college lacrosse. Syracuse owes its top spot to the combined impact of noted players Casey Powell and twin brothers Gary and Paul Gait.
