50 Best Christian Colleges and Universities 2022

What is a Christian College?

A Christian school is a private college or university with an affiliation to a particular church and denomination. This religious affiliation and its private status means that a Christian college is not beholden to the same rules separating church and state at public colleges and universities. This gives Christian colleges fairly wide latitude when it comes to the integration of faith and learning.

If you are looking for a Christian college with a reputation of promoting Christian values on campus and in student life, consider our ranking of the best CCCU colleges. Christian Colleges and universities endorsed by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) are accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities whose missions are Christ-centered and rooted in the historic Christian faith.

Many of the top Christian universities are larger research universities. If you are looking for a smaller college, you may be interested in our ranking focused on the best Christian liberal arts colleges.

Should a Non-Christian Go to a Christian College?

The primary reason a non-Christian might enroll in a Christian college is because it may be a good academic, financial, and cultural match regardless of its religious affiliation. Matching up with the right college or university is challenging. You must consider a lot of overlapping factors including your intended degree, academic reputation, faculty engagement, class size, campus atmosphere, cost, and access to financial assistance. It’s entirely possible that this combination of factors ultimately leads you to a school with a Christian identity or tradition. How do we determine the best Christian colleges and universities?

Methodology

The people affiliated with a school are ultimately what make it great! If you are serious about finding the best colleges and universities for a bachelor’s degree, you should be asking where the most influential professors are teaching and whether their graduates are themselves advancing the school’s reputation for academic excellence in their fields of study.

Most ranking sites rely on an opaque combination of reputation surveys and arbitrary performance metrics. Concentrated Influence provides a ranking that is freer from bias, insulated from manipulation, and reflective of real-world educational outcomes.

To rank the influence of schools, we first determine the influence of scholars and professionals based on the number of citations and publications they have had over the past 10 years. In addition to publications and citations, we consider the web links to and from these sources, and the page views of those sources. We then match the influential people to their alma maters and institutions of employment, so that their influence is attributed to those schools. Our machine-learning Influence Ranking algorithm produces a numerical score of academic achievements, merits, and citations across Wikipedia, wikidata, Crossref, Semantic Scholar and an ever-growing body of data. If you are interested in exploring how and why we rank by influence, explore our methodology in more depth.

Our list of Christian colleges and universities consist of the mor accredited universities that offer 4-year undergraduate degrees. We’ve identified 442 Christian colleges in the US that meet our requirements. In order to be included in this ranking list of best Christian colleges and universities, a school must be fully accredited and must self-identify as Christian.
