2025 Ranking Update

Our Influence Ranking Engine™ leverages machine learning to track the real-world influence of colleges and universities over time. Below you’ll see which schools gained or last ground for the 2025 school year.

For our 2025 ranking of the best liberal arts colleges in Massachusetts, there were a few changes to note. Several of the schools in the top 10 list simply swapped positions, like Wellesley College and Smith College, who swapped the number 3 and number 4 positions. However, Wheaton College jumped an impressive 11 spots to move into the top 10 for this year, while Bentley University dropped 2 positions to slip out of the top 10, and into the number 12 spot.

A liberal arts college is a school that puts a premium on undergraduate studies and offers a broad range of subjects for students to study. A college of liberal arts typically provides smaller class sizes, more direct engagement with professors, and, most importantly, the opportunity to sample a wide range of subject areas on the way to a bachelor’s degree. We’ve identified 41 liberal arts universities in Massachusetts. To be ranked among the 25 best liberal arts colleges in Massachusetts, schools must fully accredited institutions.
